The Seat Shop - Best Leather Seat Covers

What Makes The Seat Shop's Replacement Leather Seat Covers the Best Option?

If you’re replacing your original leather upholstery, there are a few reasons why The Seat Shop’s replacement leather seat covers are the best option:

  1. We promise an accurate fit - we digitally scan the OEM upholstery piece by piece to create our seat patterns.
  2. We source material that exactly matches the original upholstery - we work with the original leather tanneries and vinyl manufacturers that supplied material for your vehicle when it was built.
  3. Our seat covers are precision cut - we use digital cutting systems to ensure pinpoint cutting accuracy and exact measurements.
  4. Our sewing quality is world-class – we obsess over the small details and manufacture all our seat covers at our facility in Plano, Texas, utilizing our own in-house sewing team.

The Seat Shop pioneered a DIY-solution for worn-out seats when we began to sell aftermarket replacement leather seat covers in 2006, and we’re proud to offer a two-year manufacturer’s warranty and factory match guarantee, so you can find confidence in knowing that you’re getting the best seat covers in the world.

Important Features of Leather Seat Covers

There are a few key features that are important to keep in mind when considering the purchase of a leather seat cover.

Quality

What’s the most important part of a leather seat cover? The leather, of course! Just like your original upholstery, leather seat covers from The Seat Shop use genuine, automotive grade top-grain cowhide leather. This type of leather provides the proper balance between the quality of traditional leather goods and the enhanced durability required to create a long-lasting automotive leather seat cover.

Durability

We use 1/2" machine-sewn foam backing behind the leather seating surface and 1/4" flame-laminated foam backing on the vinyl side skirting. This creates reinforced structure and support for your leather seat cover that will last for years to come. We also source the appropriate gauge thread (in the correct color) that provides the security and longevity you expect from your leather seat cover.

Functionality

Our covers are made with the proper features, including perforated leather and 3D spacer fabric to ensure your replacement leather seat cover is compatible with the seat heating and cooling functions you currently enjoy in your vehicle.

Safety

Looks are important, but your safety is critical when it comes to seats. We use time-tested OEM-matching attachment methods to ensure your seat cover stays in place no matter how tough you are on your seat. In addition, before we release any airbag-equipped product, it undergoes thorough testing at a qualified facility to ensure the airbag will deploy like an OEM leather seat cover should – down to the millisecond.

Buying the Right Leather Seat Cover

When shopping for a fix for your seat, there are a few different options available to you.

  • Slip-On Covers – While inexpensive, slip-on covers merely hide the problem. They can provide a quick fix, but ultimately, you’ll still end up needing to repair or replace the original seat cover.
  • Junkyard Seats – Perusing a local junkyard can be a convenient and less expensive option sometimes; however, if can be difficult to find the specific seat you need, and once you do find it, the condition of the seat can leave a lot to be desired.
  • Cheap Knockoffs – This can be an enticing solution; there are a multitude of cheap “leather seat covers” available online. But you’ve got to do your homework! Many products use “leather” in their title, but state in the description that the product is “synthetic leather”, “vegan leather”, or “PU leather”, all fancy words for vinyl. In addition, the companies making these knockoffs will often cut corners on material quality or manufacturing to keep prices low.
  • Conversion Kits – Full interior conversion kits will often look great. This is an especially popular solution for switching a cloth interior to leather. However, it’s not such a great option if you already have leather. Why would you want to change every piece out, if only one area is an issue?
  • Dealer Replacements – Buying a replacement leather seat cover from a dealer is a great way to ensure you’re getting a product that exactly matches the original. However, dealer parts can often have outrageous price tags, or even be discontinued entirely.
  • The Seat Shop – Since 2006, our goal is to provide an affordably priced exact match for your original leather seat cover, maintaining the quality and durability you expect from your seat.

Online Shopping

With the impressive number of configurations and special options offered by the original vehicle manufacturers, it can be difficult to determine the correct seat cover you need. At The Seat Shop, we’ve worked hard to present a website that guides you through the process, asking you specific questions to help you find the correct leather seat covers that match your interior.

VIN Verification

Another important aspect of verifying you’ve ordered the right seat cover is VIN verification. By providing the VIN during checkout, you’re giving our team the ability to run your VIN and verify your order is correct by checking a variety of attributes. Beyond the year, make, and model, we also check for additional callouts like trim level, trim code, cab type, seat style, and more, to ensure the correct product arrives at your door.

Installing Your Leather Seat Cover

After you’ve made your purchase, you have a couple of options at your disposal when considering installation of your seat cover.

DIY Installation

At The Seat Shop, we are firm believers that anyone can tackle the installation of a seat cover on their own, provided they have the proper tools and guidance. Frequently Asked Questions about Leather Seat Covers

Question: Do you really make your own seat covers? I heard you just buy them from overseas.
Answer: Yep! We make them right here in Plano Texas at our facility. Take a look at our About Us page to learn more.

Question: Is the quality between you and your competitors really that different
Answer: We spend a ton of time and money on Research and Development. We believe you get what you pay for, and we do our best to release high quality products that match or exceed the OEM quality.

Question: Why don’t your seat covers have the original brand logos like the Lariat logo, Chevy bowtie, Ram logo, etc?
Answer: Those logos are trademarked by the original manufacturer, and require an official (and costly) agreement with those manufacturers.

Question: What if you don’t sell a seat cover for my vehicle?
Answer: We wish we could support every vehicle on the road, but that's not an easy task, unfortunately. Please check out this page to make a suggestion! Our R&D team does look over every suggestion and collects that information to make informed decisions about what patterns to focus on!

Question: Why do you use vinyl on the sides instead of leather? It’s a leather seat cover!
Answer: Great question! When the manufacturers build these vehicles, they are typically "leather-appointed", meaning they use a leather seating surface, and vinyl side skirting. The vinyl side skirting makes for an easier installation because it can stretch over the seat more easily.

Question: Why don’t you pre-cut the holes for my seat controls?
Answer: This is another great question. There are a bunch of different power configurations which require different trimming on the side of the seat. We don't pre-cut each configuration because it would dramatically affect the amount of stock we would have to carry, which would drive up the price as well. The trim process for these holes is fairly straightforward, and we do our best to walk you through it with our Installation Videos.

Question: How do I take care of my leather seat cover after it’s installed
Answer: We have a couple of tips on this! Check out this page for more info.
